AI is Already Changing Marketing

A recent 2024 study of UK and US marketers found that 68% are either already using AI, or plan to do so in 2024.

And here’s how, according to the survey, marketers are currently using AI to transform their marketing and communications activities:

 I’m a big fan of technology and love to use it to make myself more productive (and my life easier).

So when ChatGPT came along in 2022, I quickly started dabbling. The same with MidJourney, the AI design software.

These days, I use these two tools (plus a sizeable number of others) to:

  • Help me write blog posts, newsletter articles, ads, social posts and any other writing (I typically brief three or more different AI writing tools and then cherrypick the best to add to my own musings).
  • Create AI-based images to illustrate my writing (again, often using multiple design tools).
  • Create videos based on the words and images, again using AI tools
  • Use AI for SEO and Social Media
  • Use AI for smarter analytics
  • Crunch data
  • Pump up productivity

… and, well, the list goes on.

In other words, I’ve totally incorporated AI into the marketing and communications work that I do.

And I’m hardly the only one.

As you will no doubt be well aware, AI has quickly become a major tool, especially in sales, marketing and communications.

Closer to home, in 2024 the New Zealand Marketing Association has been running a sold-out series of events about using AI.

I remember that a similar thing happened back in 2008-2010 with Social Media — I was chairman of the Marketing Association’s digital marketing special interest group at the time, and we were regularly selling out training events related to social media. That’s what led me to create my very first online training course, all about Social Media Marketing.

Back then, Kiwi marketers and comms people were (often reluctantly) wanting to know more about social media and how to use it effectively.
