Are New Zealand businesses wasting ten million dollars a year?

Came across these interesting comments about the importance of training, in the book “The Hard Thing About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz (co-founder of the technology venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz):

Training is, quite simply, one of the highest leverage activities a manager can perform. Consider for a moment the possibility of your putting on a series of four lectures for members of your company. Let’s count on three hours preparation for each hour of course time – twelve hours of work in total. Say that you have ten students in your class.

“Next year they will work a total of about 20,000 hours for your organisation. If you’re training efforts result in a 1% improvement in your subordinates’ performance, your company will gain the equivalent of 200 hours of work as the result of the expenditure of your twelve hours.”

As you might imagine, given that we are in the training business, these are sentiments we heartily endorse.

To ponder those thoughts in a marketing context:

New Zealand businesses spent more than a billion dollars on digital marketing in 2018, a total that will continue to grow this year.

If, as a result of a better understanding of digital marketing, Kiwi businesses spent just 1% of those dollars more effectively in 2019, that represents more than $10 million spent wisely.

So how can you improve your digital marketing knowledge?

Thought you’d never ask. May we invite you to check out our range of digital marketing courses:
